Fishing and the Rivers

Argentina is a very diverse country.  You'll witness jungle conditions while hunting Dorado in the Salta region and arctic conditions in Tierra del Fuego.  In between these extreme areas where streamers rule,  the breath taking Patagonia region features countless hatches of a variety of insects—from size 22 midges, caddis, small stones, various mayflies, to large terrestrials, making for productive dry fly fishing for big rainbows and huge brown trout. This is where Ron Sorensen and his competent guide staff stand out.

Non Angling Activities



For those wishing to give their casting arms a break, as well for those who come for non-angling exploration and adventure, there are opportunities for a treasure trove of lifetime memories. Multi-day horseback trips along miles and miles in the amazing backcountry in the north of the Neuquén Province, the strange beauty of the volcanic geology, and virgin countryside become more intimate when discovered amongst friends.

The Volcán Domuyo Expedition follows the north-to-south running Andes Mountains, traveling a distance of 45 miles before reaching the base of Volcán Domuyo (elev. 15,450 feet), the highest peak in both the Neuquén Province and all of Patagonia. Boiling thermals, geysers, and hot springs are born deep inside the dormant volcano, flowing down the mountainside.

The Cerro Mall Trek starts near Nonthue educational campsite, and is a steadily steep walk upwards, typical of the Andes range. It is about four hours long, and you will walk through a beech forest and thick colihue cane undergrowth. After this physically demanding trek, you get to the summit, from where the Choshuenco, Lanín and Villarrica volcanoes and their huge valleys in different directions can be seen.

The Acen-Niyeu Volcano in the Lanin National Park takes you along hidden glacial lakes, ice carved valleys and the tracks of powerful volcanic eruptions remind you that this Andes range is not static but alive. Trek trough a dense very old enormous nothofagus forest, then between the sedimentary hills and the sharp dark scoria and volcanic rock to a sudden expanse of a huge colorful sandy valley surrounded by the volcanoes that formed it. Finally at the summit, a 360º view of the whole southern Andes makes the effort more than worth it.
